Blogging good for your career

I’ve seen this article linked over at the Sun weblogs a couple of times now and although I technically agree with his comments and points, I think he’s missed a great deal of information. I have a blog (obviously, since your reading this) and I have had none of the benefits he speaks of. He makes it sound as though all you need to do is make a blog and populate it with something of value, and opportunities will seek you out. Well, I think I’ve written a great number of valuable comments and notes in my blog and I’ve barely had any visitors, let alone created a large network of contacts and friends.

Its like saying that writing an award winning resume will land you that fantastic job, but failing to mention that you need to write a cover-letter and actually *send* your resume to a company that’s actually looking to hire. Just writting a blog will not garner you fame and recognition, but it will help you if you do everything else your supposed to do in order to succeed in this world. Its just an extension of the norm, not a replacement.
